The Trail Between The Lakes
A guide to help you explore 28 miles of wild “bridgeless and free” forest
between Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend Reservoirs in East Texas
The Friends of the Trail Between The Lakes (TBTL) bring you this guide to help trail visitors. This environment continuously changes, so this information may be inaccurate.
The trail offers exciting opportunities from short day-hikes of a couple of miles to multi-day backpacking trips, while also offering challenges to trail runners. Camping opportunities include an established campground at the eastern terminus, multiple car-camping opportunities at hunter camps along the trail, and freedom to backpack camp anywhere along the trail. There are plenty of trees throughout, so hammocks work very well too. There is a surprising variety of flora and fauna, which differs from month to month.
